Walking

Our society has caused us to become so dependent on cars that walking is not an easy switch to make. But as gas prices continue to rise, more and more people are taking steps to walk more and drive less. Walking can save you money and increase your health, while causing environmental benefits for all. Below are two websites you can visit to learn more about what's happening in your area:

Walk Score:  Walk Score's mission is to increase walkability in various neighborhoods. It also provides an easy way to find a rental and compare its neighborhood's walk score to other rentals. This helps tenants include walkability as part of their rental search options.

Statewide Pedestrian Master Plan:  The State Department of Transportation is working toward a better and safer pedestrian environment. This plan will reduce pedestrian fatalities and injuries by providing safety improvements and repairs. This project will improve walkability in many areas around the island.
